Nine-year-old David reluctantly leaves the orphanage in which he has grown up to join a foster family in a rural area of England. Here, away from the regimen of institution life, shy of his adoptive parents, his days are lonely and insecure. But when David meets a fox and trains him to gentleness and obedience, his loneliness diminishes.
